The Business Challenge
Tallahassee Community College (TCC) is an open admission, comprehensive community college. Its mission is to provide excellence in teaching and learning through educational programs that promote intellectual, social, and personal development of students; to assist them in developing the ability to think critically, creatively, and reflectively; and to prepare them for productive and satisfying lives.
TCC recognized that significant improvements in student service levels, student user experience, administrative efficiencies, and potential cost savings could be realized by leveraging technology to deliver a state-of-the-art Student Portal solution.
Idea Integration provided assistance in design, development, training and mentoring for TCC in their efforts to implement the Student Portal solution. A Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) deployment was completed and assistance was provided to TCC for the integration of existing business critical applications into the Portal environment.
Microsoft SharePoint Technologies Platform Solution
Idea Integration implemented the SharePoint Technologies platform which provided the compatibility, stability and reliability that TCC needed. The high level features of the Student Portal solution included the integration of EagleNet, TCC’s online registration system where students can register for classes, activate an eAccount, obtain their course grades and pay fees online. There was also integration with Black Board, a student-to-faculty communication tool that is utilized for distance learning courses. The SharePoint services that were implemented included out-of-the-box as well as custom coding. There was also integration with Exchange and Active Directory for authentication and Outlook email synchronization and schedule visibility. All the services and application integration provided were made available thru the single point of entry – the MOSS Student Portal site which provided single sign-on capabilities.
